Málaga Tickets: Official Prices, Free Hours and the Three Slots Worth Booking

The city venues first, because the answer is the same for all of them: the Alcazaba, Gibralfaro, the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral, the Casa Natal, the Pompidou, the Thyssen and the Museo Ruso sell day tickets with no time printed on them, and none of their sites publishes a refund rule for an unused ticket. A ticket bought online and not used is, on the evidence of the pages, money spent. A ticket bought at the gate is bought when you are already inside. That is the practical reason to buy at the door in Málaga and the reason the platform cards, which cancel free to 24 hours before, are worth their small premium only to someone whose plans might change.

The two named tickets are different. The Caminito del Rey admits groups every 10 minutes and wants you at the control cabin 30 minutes before your time. A missed slot is a lost ticket, and the site allows no refunds at all except when the operator itself closes the route, for weather or a landslide, in which case you may exchange to another date subject to availability or ask for a refund within four calendar days of the closure notice, paid to the card within ten business days. Asking for the refund cancels the right to exchange, so decide which you want before you click. The Alhambra, the other named ticket a Málaga visitor is likely to hold, ties the Nasrid Palaces to the printed time and states that missing it means losing the right to enter the Palaces, with capacity controlled at 300 people per half hour. The Nerja Cave prints 'no changes and no refunds' and an exact visit time on every ticket.

The Recovery Routes That Exist

If the Caminito date is gone, the afternoon tour in the shade at $75.56 and the first-slot coach at $73.24 hold their own allocations, which is the one case on this page where a platform card gets you a ticket the official shop cannot. If the Picasso Museum's Sunday window is full to the door, the Casa Natal on Plaza de la Merced is free 16:00 to 20:00 the same afternoon and never queues the same way.

If you arrive at the Alcazaba after last entry, the Roman Theatre below it is free until 18:00 on a weekday and the Mirador de Gibralfaro is open hillside. And if a Cathedral rooftop booking is what you came for, there is nothing to recover: the cubiertas visit is suspended for roof works and no return date is printed.

Not one that an official page describes. The Ayuntamiento's tourism portal, visita.malaga.eu, answered HTTP 405 and 403 to every fetch at the time of checking, so no city-sold card could be read, and this page will not say either that the city sells one or that it does not. Two indirect signals exist. The municipal botanical garden, La Concepción, lists a 'Málaga Pass' among the cards that earn its reduced fare of $3.61 (€3.10), without naming the issuer. And the only multi-museum ticket printed on an official museum site is the Bono Arte Xperience: $19.23 (€16.50), $11.07 (€9.50) reduced, valid one week, covering the three museums the Ayuntamiento runs through its Agencia Pública, the Casa Natal Picasso, the Centre Pompidou Málaga and the Colección del Museo Ruso. Bought separately those three cost $3.50 (€3) plus $10.49 (€9) plus $4.66 (€4), which is $18.64 (€16), so the Bono saves nothing on the plain tickets and only pays if you take the Pompidou's temporary show and the Ruso's MEET show as well, or value the week of re-entry. On a Sunday afternoon all three are free from 16:00 anyway.

The arithmetic for a full city pass would fail on the same rock: the Alcazaba is $8.16 (€7), the Picasso Museum $15.15 (€13), the Cathedral $11.65 (€10), and three of the biggest draws, the Roman Theatre, the Museo de Málaga and CAC, are free. A visitor doing the whole first ten of the things-to-do list at full adult price pays $55.90 (€48) in total with the combined Alcazaba and Gibralfaro ticket, before a single Sunday window is used. Two patterns run through the table. The Ayuntamiento's museums and the private foundations free under-18s, or under-17s at the Picasso Museum, and the Alcazaba frees only under-6s. EU citizenship matters twice: the Museo de Málaga is free for accredited EU citizens and the Alcazaba's reduced fare names EU citizens over 65, EU students and the European Youth Card.

Proof is checked at the door everywhere the fare is reduced.

Six official shops cover the city, and they are worth naming because the reseller pages that rank for 'Málaga tickets' do not link to any of them. The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro sell at both gates and at alcazabaygibralfaro.janto.es, with no advance-booking obligation stated. The Picasso Museum sells at the desk and at tickets.museopicassomalaga.org, and its own page says to buy online to be sure of a ticket. The Cathedral sells at the door and through articketing.vocces.com. The three Ayuntamiento museums, the Casa Natal, the Pompidou and the Museo Ruso, share one ticketing engine at eulenmalaga.arteyocio.com, and the Casa Natal adds €0.30 per ticket for buying online. The Thyssen sells at entradas.carmenthyssenmalaga.org. La Concepción sells only at the gate: 'la entrada no se puede adquirir previamente online', in the garden's own words, so the coach-tour bundles that claim to include it are buying it on arrival like everyone else.

The Roman Theatre and the Museo de Málaga issue no ticket for a free visit. The theatre limits entry by capacity and takes no one in the last 30 minutes. The Caminito del Rey sells only online, requires a login, lets you buy up to ten tickets and makes you personalise each one in your profile before you can download it, which takes ten minutes the first time and is the step most people leave for the morning of the walk. Every official link on this page is untracked. The platform cards carry a commission, disclosed on the affiliate page.

The City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus with museum entry is listed at $34.89 for the 24-hour 'Iconic' ticket, rated 4.0 from 2,986 reviews, and it is the one product on this site where the ticket page does most of the work: the operator's own listing bundles the bus with a guided walk and entry to a set of museums that changes with the ticket tier, so read the inclusions on the card before assuming the Picasso Museum is inside. Priced against the gate, the bus is buying the ride up to Gibralfaro, which EMT line 35 does for $1.63 (€1.40) roughly every 30 minutes, and the museum entries it lists are the ones that cost between nothing and $13.98 (€12) at their own doors, most of them free on Sunday afternoon. For a cruise day with four hours ashore it is a reasonable way to see the hill and the port without a map.
