The table below is what the official sources actually support. The bus row is a negative finding and it is the most useful line on this page: the Damas route list carries Sevilla to Ronda and nothing to Setenil. The CTMAM consortium's line 215 with a similar name is an unrelated Rincón de la Victoria route.

And the ayuntamiento's own bus timetable PDF, which a search snippet says names three operators, could not be downloaded because the host refused every connection. Until that PDF is read, no bus to Setenil is printed here.

By coach from Málaga

Every coach on this site that goes to Setenil goes to Ronda too, and most do Setenil first. The bus-only loop leaves from Muelle de Heredia and is the cheapest seat at $29.08. Its listing text still says from Seville in places, which is an operator error, and the meeting point is in Málaga.

The nine-hour trip with a host and the guided version both leave from Calle San Jacinto 1, and the guided one is the only loop with the Ronda bullring in the price. The premium coach leaves from Avenida de Andalucía 12, gives an hour in Setenil with its tourist train and three in Ronda, and is the only one with German commentary, on the bus only. None of the loops includes a guided walk in Setenil.

You are set down, told a time, and left to the streets, which for a village this size is the right arrangement.

The shuttle train

Setenil is built up a river gorge, so the coaches park at the bottom and the centre is above you. Two of the listings, the most reviewed loop and the premium coach, include a shuttle or tourist train up to the village. The bus-only loop and the hosted trip do not, and reviewers of those mention the climb.

No official page prices the train separately or prints its route, so whether it is worth the difference comes down to knees: the whole village is slopes and steps, and the train removes the steepest of them.

By car

The road is the route for anyone who wants Setenil without Ronda's timetable, or wants to arrive before the coaches. No official page read for this guide prints the road distance or driving time from Málaga or from Ronda, and the Wikidata straight-line figure is not a road distance, so neither is printed. Parking in the village is not priced on any page we could reach.

What the road buys is time of day: the coach loops all arrive in the same late-morning window, and a car can be under the rock at nine or at six.

From Ronda without a car

If you took the train to Ronda, the honest answer is that we cannot print a bus. Ronda's municipal tourism office on Paseo Blas Infante, telephone +34 952 187 119, is the place to ask on the day. A taxi from Ronda is the fallback and its fare is not published.

Calle Cuevas del Sol and Calle Cuevas de la Sombra

The two streets are the reason Setenil is on every list: houses built into the rock overhangs along the Río Trejo, one street on the sunny side of the gorge and one in the shade, which is what the names say. Both are public streets, open at any hour, and both are lined with bars whose tables sit under the rock. That is the whole of what an official source lets us print about them.

The Torre del Homenaje and the alcazaba

Above the streets stands what remains of the Nasrid alcazaba, and its keep, the Torre del Homenaje, is the one monument with a verified official description. The Diputación de Cádiz describes it as a Nasrid construction of the mid-thirteenth century inside the alcazaba, composed of four bodies and three floors, with a cistern, two domes and corridors of pointed vaults inside, and a terrace with views over the whole municipality and the Ronda depression. The ayuntamiento at Calle Villa 5 keeps public hours of 08:00 to 15:00 on weekdays and answers on 956 134 004. That address and those hours come from the Diputación de Cádiz directory, which is the one official page for the village that loaded. The tourist office is a different matter.

A search snippet of an ayuntamiento news item reads Monday to Sunday 10:00 to 14:00, telephone 956 134 261, and that is printed here as unverified because the page itself could not be fetched. The Torre del Homenaje has no published hours. What this means for a visit is simple: arrive on a coach and the village is open because the streets are.

Arrive independently on a Sunday afternoon and you will find bars and views and, probably, a closed office and a tower you cannot enter. The Ronda page has the opposite problem, a town with too many hours to keep track of.

An hour is not a compromise here. It is the size of the place. The reason to give it longer is the tower and a meal, and both need a car or a taxi from Ronda because the coaches keep to their hour.

Setenil is the first hour of the Ronda day, and that is where to leave it unless you have a car. Book a loop, take the version with the shuttle train if the slope worries you, spend the hour on the two streets, and save the museum money for Ronda's Bono Municipal, which the Ronda page prices. If you are driving, do it the other way round: Setenil at nine before the coaches, the tower if it is open, lunch under the rock, then Ronda for the afternoon and the bridge in evening light, which no coach can give you.

Either way it is one day of a stay based in the historic centre, and the three-day itinerary puts the inland day in the middle.
