Mijas Pueblo

The figures come from Avanza's Málaga bus station fare sheet in force from 1 June 2026, the M-112 line page, the CTMAM consortium's line tables and its tariff valid from 15 July to 31 December 2026, and the operators' listings. Renfe's Cercanías pages render their timetable in a widget and print no fare, so the train leg is the one row with blanks.

The direct bus, M-112

Avanza's M-112 runs from Málaga bus station through Torremolinos and Benalmádena to Mijas Pueblo in 70 minutes for $2.91 (€2.50), or $1.84 (€1.58) with the consortium card, the fare in force from 1 June 2026. The catch is the timetable, valid from 1 March 2025 on the line page: five departures on weekdays, at 06:35, 09:50, 13:00, 15:25 and 21:00, with the 15:25 marked as a school-days run, and returns at 07:50, 11:30, 19:25 and 22:20. At weekends and on holidays there is one bus each way, out at 15:25 and back at 11:20, which means a Saturday day trip by direct bus is not possible in that order.

The 09:50 out and the 19:25 back make a full weekday. The 06:35 out and the 11:30 back make a morning that beats the coaches to the CAC. Where the bus station is sits on the getting around page.

The train and the M-122

The Cercanías C-1 from María Zambrano or Centro-Alameda to Fuengirola is the frequent leg, and Renfe prints neither its journey time nor its fare on a page that renders as text, so both are not stated here. The María Zambrano station page covers the line. From Fuengirola's bus terminal, beside the station, the M-122 climbs to Mijas Pueblo in 25 minutes, 17 on some runs, from 07:20 on weekdays and Saturdays and 08:00 on Sundays, roughly every half hour through the day, with the last bus down at 22:00 on the consortium table and later runs to 02:30 on Avanza's page.

Its fare is set by the CTMAM zone system, $2.04 (€1.75) single for one zone or $2.91 (€2.50) for two, $0.83 (€0.71) or $1.11 (€0.95) with the card, and the consortium does not print how many zones the line crosses, so the exact fare is the one the driver charges. The M-122 terminates at the Mijas Pueblo stop, and the tourist office is on Avenida Virgen de la Peña beside the square.

Mijas Pueblo, Mijas Costa and the difference

Two of the four questions attached to this keyword ask what the difference is between Mijas and Mijas Pueblo, and whether the Pueblo is the old town. The municipality of Mijas runs from the hills to the sea. Mijas Pueblo is the white village on the hillside that everything on this page describes, Mijas Costa is the coastal strip below it around La Cala and Calahonda, and Las Lagunas de Mijas, where the quad and buggy bases are, is the inland town near Fuengirola.

So yes, the Pueblo is the old village, and a bus or coach labelled Mijas without the word Pueblo may be going somewhere else. The M-112 and M-122 both say Mijas Pueblo on their line pages.

The burro-taxi and its official tariff

The ayuntamiento's tourism site prints the tariff: a burro ride $17.48 (€15), a two-person cart pulled by a donkey $23.30 (€20), and a horse carriage $29.13 (€25). The stand runs 09:00 to 18:00 in winter and 10:00 to 21:00 in summer, every day, and the switch dates are not printed. The municipality built the stand for 60 burro-taxis and eight carriages, and the 2019 animal-welfare ordinance sets a maximum rider weight of 80 kg.

The ayuntamiento's mobility page publishes the veterinary reports, the latest from May and July 2026, and no tariff, so the tourism page is the price. The route and the duration of the ride are not stated anywhere official. If the welfare question is yours, the ordinance and the veterinary reports are the documents to read, and the lanes are walkable without one.

CAC Mijas and the Picasso ceramics

The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo at Calle Málaga 28 holds the Remedios Medina collection, more than 400 works, 130 of them by Picasso, including what it describes as the second-largest collection of his ceramics in the world, plus pieces by Dalí. Entry is $3.50 (€3), under 5 free, reduced tariffs not stated. The hours are the trap: Monday to Saturday 10:30 to 14:00, and closed on Sundays, so an afternoon arrival on any day and any arrival on a Sunday sees none of it.

The 06:35 and 09:50 direct buses and the train-plus-M-122 route all land in time. The coach loops' 75-minute stop may or may not, depending on the operator's morning. Picasso's own house and museum in the city are on the Casa Natal and Picasso Museum pages, and the museums hub sets them in order.

The oval bullring and the Museo Taurino

The Plaza de Toros on Paseo de Las Murallas was built in 1900 at the request of residents, closed in 1968 and reopened in 1977 after renovation, and its oval shape is the reason it appears in every description of the village. The visit with the Museo Taurino is $3.50 (€3), $2.91 (€2.50) for groups of 20 or more. Its hours are printed two different ways on the town's own site: the monument page gives winter 10:30 to 19:00 daily and summer 11:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and 11:00 to 19:00 at weekends, while the hours-and-leaflets page gives Monday to Friday 10:30 to 19:00 and weekends and holidays 10:30 to 18:30.

The Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña and the Casa Museo

The chapel on Paseo El Compás, beside the Mirador del Compás, was carved into the rock by a Carmelite monk in the second half of the seventeenth century, houses the image which legend says was found in 1586, and is free and open all day, every day, per the town's monument page. It is the one sight with no clock at all. The Casa Museo, the historical and ethnological museum, is $1.17 (€1), open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00 and weekends 10:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 18:00.

The same page marks the Molino de Harina as provisionally closed. The tourist office at Avenida Virgen de la Peña 2A keeps Monday to Friday 09:00 to 14:30 and shuts at weekends, which matters if you want the free village map on a Saturday.

Eating, and what this page will not name

Naming a restaurant on this site requires a citable list or the venue's own site, with the source and its year printed beside the name. For Mijas Pueblo we hold neither, so no restaurant is named here despite the search cluster asking for one. What the sources support is the timing: the coach loops give 75 minutes, which is a drink rather than a meal, and the direct bus's 11:30 return means an independent morning eats in Málaga.

Everything below is from turismo.mijas.es, the CAC's own site and the bus operators' tables. The bullring row shows both of the town's versions.

The order that works is CAC first, chapel and lanes before lunch, bullring after, burro or not as you please, and the 19:25 bus or the M-122 down to Fuengirola at any time up to 22:00. The switch dates for the burro-taxi and bullring seasons are not printed, and this page does not guess them. The Marbella page has the other clock on the western coast, the Museo del Grabado that its own site closes on Sundays.

Three ways to spend the time, with what each leaves out. Bus times are Avanza's and the consortium's. The train leg is not stated by Renfe.

Half a day is the honest unit for the village on its own, and the train-plus-M-122 route lets you take it on any day of the week. The coach makes sense only if Marbella and Puerto Banús are in the day, and the Marbella page is where to decide that.

Mijas is the half day that fits around something else. On a weekday, the 09:50 direct bus, the CAC before two, the chapel, the lanes, the bullring after lunch and the 19:25 back is a whole day for under six euros in fares. On any day, the Cercanías to Fuengirola and the M-122 give the same village with the afternoon on a beach at the bottom of the hill, per the beaches hub.

If Marbella and Puerto Banús are on the list, let the ten-hour coach string the three together and accept 75 minutes here. Base yourself in the historic centre for the bus station and the Cercanías, both on the getting around page, and give the village a morning on the two-day itinerary only if the sea is the other half of that day.
