A modern bath house on an old square

Hammam Al Ándalus is a chain of Arab-style bath houses in Andalusian cities. The Málaga one occupies a building on Plaza de los Mártires Ciriaco y Paula, the small square in front of the church of the same name, two minutes north-west of Calle Larios. It is not a historic bath: the city's medieval baths are gone, and the Alcazaba has the only Nasrid water architecture you can walk through.

What the hammam offers is the form, horseshoe arches, star-pierced vaults, candlelight, and three pools at three temperatures, built for the purpose.

What happens: three pools, a steam room, a massage

Every session is 90 minutes and every session includes the water. You check in fifteen minutes before your start time, change into a swimsuit, and move at your own pace between the hot pool, the warm pool and the cold one, with a steam room and a lounge where mint tea is served. The massage, if your ticket has one, is called in the middle of the session: 15 or 30 minutes with essential oil on the bath with massage card, or a kessa scrub with black soap on a hot stone table followed by a 15-minute massage on the kessa card.

The bath-only card is the same water and tea with nobody touching you. Mixed bathing throughout, silence expected, no cameras.

Is it worth it: the honest reading of the reviews

The bath-with-massage session carries 2,823 reviews at 4.7 on the platform, the kessa session 536 at 4.7 and the bath-only 246 at 4.5, which is a large sample for a spa. The consistent praise is the building and the calm. The consistent complaint, where there is one, is that 90 minutes with a massage inside it is shorter than it sounds, since the massage takes you out of the pools.

If your reason for coming is the water, the bath-only card gives you the whole 90 minutes in it for $11.63 less. If it is the massage, book the 30-minute option when they ask. The Málaga costs page sets the price beside the city's other evening spends.

The booking form offers seven start times a day, every two hours from 10:00 to 22:00, so the last session ends at 23:30. The site does not print which days it opens. The booking calendar is the only source, and the cards' calendars have shown every day of the week open when we looked.

The four Mimma combinations are the baths' own names for the bath-and-massage products. The platform cards map onto the first two.

The other rituals on the service list, Midra, Jazzar, Zahrawi (a facial), Bayyah, Nafiri (circulatory) and the seasonal 'Navega hacia ti', have no card and no price outside the booking engine. If one of them is what you want, the direct booking is the only route. Session start times: 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00, 22:00.

This is the negative finding on the page, and it is the reason the platform cards carry the money block. Every public page of malaga.hammamalandalus.com we fetched in Q3 2026, the service list, the Mimma page, the English home page and the booking-form entry page, prints durations, names and phone numbers and not one price. The prices exist, inside the JavaScript booking engine at malagareservas.hammamalandalus.com, after you have chosen a date and a session, which means no search engine, no comparison site and no reader can see them without starting a booking. We record none.

What we can print is what the same operator lists on the platform, because that is public: $58.17 for the bath alone, $69.80 with the 15- or 30-minute massage, $108.19 with the kessa scrub and massage. Whether the booking engine is cheaper or dearer than those we cannot say. The practical advice is to open the booking form for your date, read the figure it shows for the Mimma you want, and compare it with the card before you pay either. Both are the baths' own prices on two channels, and the card cancels free up to 24 hours before, which the site's terms do not state.

Minimum age is not stated on the pages we read either. A 'Rules' page exists inside the booking site and was not fetched. The cards say bring ID. The tickets hub lists the hammam among the things in Málaga that need a booking rather than a queue.

The baths' public pages state almost no rules. The operator's own platform listings state several, and since they are the same company we treat them as the house rules. Swimsuit required. Mixed bathing. Silence expected in the bath area and no cameras or phones. Arrive fifteen minutes before your session for check-in. Bring identification. Towel, bath gel, hair dryer and a locker are provided, and mint tea and water in the lounge. The listings exclude pregnant women and wheelchair users, and describe the baths as not suitable for people with mobility impairments. Nothing on the baths' own pages adds to or softens that.

Not stated anywhere we read: a minimum age, a rule on children, a dress code beyond the swimsuit, whether the pools are chlorinated, and the temperatures of the three pools. The Málaga with kids page treats the hammam as an adults' evening for that reason.

The variable is the session time, because the sessions are fixed and the old town around the square is not. The 10:00 session precedes everything. The 18:00 follows a museum.

The 22:00 replaces the nightlife.

One adjustment: the kessa session spends about half its 90 minutes on the table rather than in the water, so if the pools are the point, take the bath-only or bath with massage card and the 30-minute option.

The address is Plaza de los Mártires Ciriaco y Paula 5, 29008 Málaga, the small square in front of the church of the Santos Mártires, in the pedestrian grid north-west of Calle Larios. From Plaza de la Constitución at the top of Calle Larios it is two minutes up Calle Santa Lucía. From the Carmen Thyssen Museum on Calle Compañía it is one minute. From the Cathedral about five. Metro line 1's Atarazanas terminus on the Alameda is a six-minute walk, and EMT buses 1, 3, 11 and the C1 and C2 circulars stop on the Alameda. The single fare is $1.63 (€1.40). The getting-around page has the lines.

There is no parking on the square and the streets around it are pedestrian. The port car park under Muelle Uno, capped at $35.00 (€30) a day, is the nearest with a published tariff, fifteen minutes away. The GPS above is the OpenStreetMap point for number 5 on the square, since the baths publish no coordinates and have no Wikidata item.

At 18:00, at the end of a museum afternoon, which is where the Málaga in three days itinerary puts it: the Carmen Thyssen Museum from 15:30, one minute round the corner to the baths for the 18:00 session, dinner at 20:00 in the old town. On a shorter trip the 22:00 session is the one that costs nothing in sightseeing, and the nightlife page sets it against the bars, which by regional rule close at 02:00. On a Sunday it pairs with the Thyssen's free entry from 16:00.

The 10:00 session is for the visitor whose flight lands the night before and who wants the old town at noon with the Cathedral first.
