Marbella From Málaga: the Bus, the Old Town and Puerto Banús

Every Line Compared

Four lines connect Málaga and Marbella. The table lists the fare in each direction, the journey time, when the line runs, and what decides which one you take. All figures come from the Avanza fare PDFs and line pages, checked in Q3 2026.

First Bus, Last Bus and the Direct Runs

The first departure from Málaga is the 05:10 L-307, which reaches Marbella at 05:55. Only four outbound runs are direct: 05:10, 15:50, 18:05 and 20:35. The 12:35 L-312 Exprés also arrives in 45 minutes, making five fast runs in practice.

Everything else is an L-607 or L-605 that detours through the airport and takes about an hour. The last return from Marbella is the 01:10 L-307, with an L-607 at 00:15, so dinner in Marbella is not a problem. The timetable in force is the Monday to Sunday edition dated 26 June 2026.

You leave from Málaga Estación de Autobuses, stop 2111, beside María Zambrano station, and the rest of the Málaga end is covered under getting around.

• Direct runs out of Málaga: 05:10, 15:50, 18:05, 20:35 (L-307), plus 12:35 (L-312 Exprés).
• Direct runs back from Marbella: seven a day, ending with the 01:10 L-307.
• Airport runs: every 20 to 30 minutes from 07:50 to 00:00.
• Marbella to Ronda on the L-304 costs $9.59 (€8.23), handy if you want to chain two day trips.

The Station Address Confusion

Two different addresses are printed for the Marbella bus station. The town's tourism site gives Avda. del Trapiche s/n, stop 2124. Avanza's own page gives Avenida Hermanos Blánquez s/n.

They are the same station, so do not worry, but check your map app before printing anything. As for the train, there is none: Marbella has no railway line. The town's own cómo llegar page names the nearest stations as Fuengirola, 27 km away, and Málaga María Zambrano, 57 km away, and stops there.

Any plan that involves a train to Marbella ends at Fuengirola with a bus connection, which is slower than the direct coach.

• Do not book anything addressed to a Marbella train station, because no such station is listed.
• The bus drops you at the same station whatever the address on the ticket.

Plaza de los Naranjos

After Fernando el Católico took Marbella in 1485, the town laid out the square that is now known as the Plaza de los Naranjos as its urban axis. Around it rose the already existing Ermita de Santiago, the Ayuntamiento, the mesons, the prison, the Casa del Corregidor and several large mansions, all of which give the square its frame today. The name comes from the orange trees planted in 1941.

They replaced palms, and the palms had replaced horse-chestnuts, so the famous orange trees are younger than they look. The Ayuntamiento still stands on the square at Plaza de los Naranjos s/n.

• Ermita de Santiago: the oldest building on the square, standing before the 1485 conquest.
• Casa del Corregidor: one of the grand mansions raised as the plaza became the town's centre.
• Ayuntamiento: the town hall, still in use on the plaza.

The Arab Walls and How Long to Allow

The Casco Antiguo keeps Roman, Arab and Christian remains, and the Arab walls are the most visible layer of that sequence. They thread between the older streets a short walk from the plaza, and there is no ticket and no gate. The town publishes no figure for how long the old town takes, which is honest of it, because the answer depends on whether you sit for coffee.

Our own reading: two unhurried hours cover the plaza, the walls and the museum. If you want the art expanded, Málaga's own museum scene goes far deeper than one print collection, and the centro histórico of Málaga makes a useful comparison point for scale.

• Go early or late in summer, since the streets hold the heat.
• Carry water, because the town publishes no fountain map.
• There is no monument ticket to buy, so nothing can sell out.

The price is not in dispute. The museum's own site states a single entry price of $5.83 (€5), and marbella.es confirms the same figure. Reduced and free categories are not stated on the museum site, so budget the full single fare.

Which Source to Trust

We trust the museum's own site, museodelgrabado.es, for two reasons. First, it is the operator speaking about its own doors. Second, the marbella.es page carries an Easter date of 18 April as a fixed closure, and Good Friday moves every year, which suggests the city hall page has not been updated.

Our advice is simple: visit Tuesday to Friday to get the full 11:00 to 18:00 day, and treat Sunday as closed. The Monday and Saturday 11:00 to 14:00 window is short, so go early. If a museum is the anchor of your trip, our Málaga museums page lists what the home city offers too.

What the Sources Do and Do Not Say

The town's tourism portal has no reachable page about Puerto Banús itself: three likely URLs returned 404 errors on each attempt in Q3 2026. That means the marina's founding year, its berth count and its distance from Marbella centre are all not stated by any source we can cite, and we will not invent them. What is stated is the tourist office.

It sits at Avenida Naciones Unidas s/n, 29660, with the phone number +34 952 768 749, and it opens weekdays 09:30 to 15:30 and weekends and holidays 10:00 to 16:00. It is the only tourist office in the Marbella area open on a Saturday or Sunday, which makes it more useful than its location suggests.

• Entry to the marina is free and it is open at all hours.
• Founding year, berth count and distance: not stated by any official source.
• On weekends, the Puerto Banús office replaces the closed Plaza de los Naranjos office.

Getting There by Bus

Two stated routes exist. The interurban L-304, the same line that continues to Ronda, stops at Puerto Banús after Marbella's bus station. Separately, the urban network branded AVANZA Movility ADO connects Marbella centro, Puerto Banús and San Pedro Alcántara, with the phone number +34 955 038 665 for the operator.

The honest line is this: the urban bus line number and fare from Marbella centre to Puerto Banús are not stated, because the operator's site returned an HTTP 403 error on every fetch in Q3 2026 and the consortium lists no Marbella urban line. Neither the town nor the operator publishes it, so plan around the L-304 or a taxi on your own judgment. Both coach tours solve the problem for you, and both loops give free time at the marina, the ten-hour loop with Colomares Castle added.

• Do check the L-304 stop list at the Marbella station before assuming a departure.
• Don't expect to find the urban fare online, because the operator's own site blocks automated access and no official source prints it.

The Three Offices

The main office sits on the Plaza de los Naranjos itself, at number s/n, 29601, phone +34 952 768 707, open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 14:00 and closed on weekends and holidays. The Puerto Banús office at Avenida Naciones Unidas s/n covers weekends from 10:00 to 16:00 and weekdays 09:30 to 15:30, phone +34 952 768 749. A third office serves San Pedro Alcántara at Avenida Luis Braille 36, Monday to Friday 08:30 to 14:30.

A fourth, El Faro, could not be checked because its page returned an HTTP 500 error. The central tourism department is at Avenida Antonio Belón 21, 29602, phone +34 952 768 760.

A Sample Day by Bus

The 05:10 direct bus is too early for most people, and the morning has no other direct run: only 05:10, 15:50, 18:05 and 20:35 leave Málaga directly. That means most visitors take an L-607 airport run of about 60 minutes. A workable day looks like this.

Take a morning L-607 around 08:00 and reach Marbella about 09:00, or sleep in and take the 12:35 L-312 Exprés arriving 13:20. Walk the Plaza de los Naranjos and the Arab walls before lunch, then see the Museo del Grabado, which is open until 18:00 on a Tuesday to Friday. Late afternoon, either bus to Puerto Banús on the L-304 or stay for dinner.

The last returns are the 00:15 L-607 and the 01:10 L-307, so an evening in Marbella is safe. Remember the Plaza de los Naranjos office shuts at 14:00, so ask your questions early.

• Do ride the 12:35 Exprés if a 45-minute run matters to you.
• Don't wait for the tourist office after lunch on a weekday, because it closes at 14:00.
• Do save the museum for Tuesday to Friday if you can.
