'Más allá de su tiempo', Since 18 May 2024: The Castañé Collection

The long-term hang is drawn from the private collection of Russian art assembled by José María Castañé, and the museum's exhibition page describes it as strongest in the avant-garde of 1910 to 1930 in Moscow and St Petersburg, running from the late nineteenth century to the end of the Second World War, with many of the best-known Russian artists represented. The names the page prints are Popova, Baranoff-Rossiné and Alexander Deineka. The subjects are landscapes, still lifes and portraits from the United States to Africa, Crimea, Armenia and Uzbekistan, by artists of several nationalities of the former Russian Empire.

No work count is printed. It is the reason to come: a Spanish private collection of the Russian avant-garde that is not on view anywhere else, hung in the galleries built for the St Petersburg loan.

The 2026 Temporary Shows

Two shows and an intervention run alongside it. 'Valery Katsuba. Realismo Romántico II', 17 June to 15 November 2026, is analogue photography in medium and large format organised around travel, emotional bonds and the body in effort, across St Petersburg, Madrid, Santiago de Chile, Mexico, Havana, London and New York.

It is the second Katsuba show here in a year, after one that ran from 26 November 2025 to 31 May 2026. 'Mijaíl Glinka', from 3 August 2026 with no end date printed, is nearly a hundred pieces from national and international collections curated by Pepe Zapata on the composer as a romantic traveller who found flamenco in Spain and wrote it into his music, set inside the Grand Tour and the nineteenth-century appetite for al-Andalus. 'Consensus Ritualis', 5 March 2026 to March 2027, is an artistic intervention.

What This Page Will Not Say

Whether the St Petersburg works will return, on what terms the branch agreement stands, and what the MEET acronym means are all absent from the official pages we read, and the videos in circulation that claim to explain them are not sources this site uses. The facts pack's own note is that the loan-status wording is not published and that 'CMR' should be verified as a product name, which is what this page does: CMR is the ticket to the collection galleries, MEET is the ticket to the second space, and the Tabacalera holds both. When the museum prints a statement, this page will carry it.

The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday, holidays included, from 09:30 to 20:00, closing at 15:00 on 24 and 31 December with last entry at 14:30, and closes on Mondays except special openings, on 25 December and on 1 January. Entry is free on Sundays from 16:00 until closing and every day for under-18s, the unemployed, youth-card holders, visitors with a disability, art-history teachers and students, museum staff, ICOM members, accredited guides and the press. The audio guide is free in Spanish, English, French, German, Italian and Russian, and the visit page states the building has been adapted to be fully accessible.

The Bono Arte Xperience at $19.23 (€16.50), $11.07 (€9.50) reduced, opens this museum, the Casa Natal Picasso and the Centre Pompidou for one week.

The Tabacalera is the former tobacco factory on Avenida Sor Teresa Prat that the Ayuntamiento converted into a museum quarter. The museum's own pages we read print no construction date for it, so none is given here. The building is shared with the Museo Automovilístico y de la Moda at the same address, open daily 10:00 to 14:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 with a midday closure, $13.98 (€12) full, $11.65 (€10) for over-65s and $9.32 (€8) reduced, free from 0 to 5, closed 25 December and 1 and 6 January, with ad-hoc closures for private events that its banner announces.

Ten minutes further south-west is La Térmica, the Diputación's cultural centre on Avenida de los Guindos, whose exhibitions open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:30 and 11:00 to 14:00 at weekends, reached by EMT lines 15, 7 and 40. Together the three make the western afternoon that justifies the bus. On their own none does.

The beaches west of the port, and which of them has a chiringuito with a citable source, are on Málaga beaches.

The address is Avenida Sor Teresa Prat 15, Edificio de Tabacalera, 29003 Málaga, about three kilometres west of the Cathedral in the Huelin district along the coast road. EMT buses serve the avenue for $1.63 (€1.40) a single under the Ayuntamiento's 2026 fares, children to 14 free. The EMT site was unreachable when the facts pack was built, so the line numbers are not printed here, and the museum's own page prints none.

On foot from the cruise port it is about 35 minutes along the western quays. From María Zambrano station about 30 minutes. A taxi from the centre is the practical answer for a party of three or four. getting around Málaga has the taxi tariff and the bus card.

Give it a western afternoon with the Automobile Museum in the same building, after a centre morning at the Picasso Museum or the Alcazaba. On a Sunday the 16:00 free window makes the bus fare the whole cost. It belongs on the third day of a trip, not the first, and the three-day Málaga itinerary puts it there.
