Málaga Cathedral Tickets 2026

Six fares, one free rule that applies to everyone and one that applies to residents. The children's line is the one to read carefully: the $4.66 (€4) fare is printed for under-12s in groups, and the tariff page prints no individual child fare, so a family buying at the desk should ask rather than assume. Every fare includes the audio guide.

Yes, for thirty minutes a day. The tariff page prints 'Lunes a Domingo 08:30 a 09:00, acceso gratuito', a free opening seven days a week before the first Mass at 09:00. No ticket is issued, no audio guide is handed out, and the desk is not staffed for sales. You walk in through the Plaza del Obispo door and you walk out when the Mass bell goes. It is a prayer opening, so the tone is quiet and the choir is in low light, but the nave, the piers and the organs are all in front of you.

What the free window is good for: deciding whether you want the ticket at all, a first look at the choir, and photographs of the nave without a crowd. What it is not good for: the chapels, which you will not have time to walk, the Sagrario, and any of the detail the audio guide narrates. Our advice on the cathedral page is to do the free window on your first morning and buy the ticket on another day if the choir caught you.

The other free rule is residency: Málaga residents enter free at any time on the tariff page. And on the same page there is no free Sunday, no free first-Sunday-of-the-month and no free last hour, which is where the cathedral differs from the city's museums. The Sunday and Monday openings page has the museums' free hours side by side with this one.

The exact wording on malagacatedral.com is 'Estas visitas han quedado suspendidas debido a obras en el tejado'. Nothing else on the site contradicts it: the tariff page lists no rooftop fare, the ticket portal sells no rooftop slot, and the visit page does not mention the terraces. So any third-party listing that offers a Málaga Cathedral rooftop ticket today is either stale or selling a walk that cannot take place. If you hold one, ask the operator what happens to the money before the date.

For when it resumes, the same page describes the route, and it explains why the walk was sold as a separate, guided-only product: up the eighteenth-century stair in the north tower, across the intermediate chapel terraces, up the sixteenth-century cubillo stair, more than two hundred steps in all, to a height of almost fifty metres. The rules it printed for the walk still stand as the best guide to what to expect: guided only, no tripods, no backpacks, no baby carriers, no food.

We will re-read the page at the next quarterly check. Until then the substitute is the Alcazaba, whose ramparts look down onto the cathedral roof from three minutes away for $8.16 (€7), and the Gibralfaro walls above it. The Alcazaba tickets page explains the combined ticket.

The cathedral wins on price every time, and by a margin that is easy to state: its own ticket is $11.65 (€10) with the audio guide, and no reseller lists entry alone. The cards win only on what they add. The arithmetic for the three of them, using the official door prices as the baseline, is the whole decision.

Two things tilt it back towards the cards. Cancellation: every card cancels free up to 24 hours before, and the cathedral prints no refund rule at all for its own ticket. And Sunday: on a Sunday the DIY route is $11.65 (€10) for the cathedral at 14:00 and nothing for the Alcazaba after 14:00, which makes the three-monument cards a poor Sunday buy and a fair weekday one.

The tariff page links to the cathedral's ticket portal at articketing.vocces.com, which sells the general and VR tickets for a chosen date. There is no timed slot to pick, no name on the ticket and no printed limit on capacity, so the online ticket saves you nothing but the walk to the desk. Its one use is a visitor who wants the transaction done in advance. The portal is in Spanish and English.

At the desk, inside the Plaza del Obispo door, sales run from 10:30 Monday to Saturday and from 14:00 on Sunday, and stop 45 minutes before closing. The building is cleared ten minutes before the hour. Reduced fares are sold at the desk against the document that proves them. The guided supplement, $5.83 (€5), is bought at the desk too. The tariff page does not print departure times or languages for it, so ask when you buy.

Groups of 15 or more pay $8.16 (€7) a head and should book through the visit coordinator whose phone and email the how-to-get-there page prints. The where to stay page puts the old-town hotels within five minutes of this desk.

The season boundaries are printed without a year, which we read as the current cycle and will re-check when the cathedral publishes the next one. The Sunday rule is the one that costs people a visit: tourist entry starts at 14:00 after the morning Masses, so a Sunday-morning arrival gets the free window at 08:30 and then a closed desk until two.

Last entry is 45 minutes before every closing time above, so the last general ticket on a June weekday is sold at 19:15. The cathedral page has the Mass times and the quiet slots. The events calendar has the 2026 fair dates, 15 to 22 August.

• Arriving on Sunday morning with a ticket bought online: the desk and the doors open to visitors at 14:00, not 10:30, and the online ticket does not change that.
• Buying a rooftop or cubiertas ticket from a third party: the cathedral says the visits are suspended for roof works, and it publishes no date for their return.
• Being late for the guided visit: the operator counts latecomers as no-shows and the ticket goes with the tour.
• Expecting the audio guide in the free window: from 08:30 to 09:00 nothing is issued and nothing is sold. It is a prayer opening.
• Planning the visit for 15 or 16 August: no visits either day, and 17 to 22 August close at 14:30.

The cathedral sits in the middle of a five-minute grid, and the tickets around it are the reason the combo cards exist. The Alcazaba is $8.16 (€7) alone or $11.65 (€10) combined with Gibralfaro, sold at alcazabaygibralfaro.janto.es, free every Sunday from 14:00. The Roman Theatre at its foot is free always.

The Picasso Museum is $15.15 (€13) with a web-app audio guide, free in the last two hours of every Sunday. The Museo de Málaga in the Aduana palace, five minutes east, is free for EU citizens and $1.75 (€1.50) for everyone else. Add the cathedral's $11.65 (€10) and a full old-town day bought at the doors on a weekday is $36.70 (€31.50).

On a Sunday afternoon it is $11.65 (€10). The tickets hub has every price in the city on one page.

Buy it at 10:30 on a weekday and use it at once. Nothing is gained by holding it. The day that works is the free window at 08:30 if you are awake, the ticket at 10:30, the Alcazaba before the heat, lunch at the Atarazanas market bars, the Picasso Museum in the afternoon.

That is the Málaga in one day itinerary, and the three-monument walk is its guided first half. On a Sunday hold the cathedral for 14:00 and let the Alcazaba's free afternoon and the Picasso Museum's free last two hours carry the rest. The two-day itinerary is built around exactly that split.
